Joshua 14

Today’s Passage: Joshua 14

Today we get the chance to continue to learn about the divvying up of the inheritance to Israel. I know these seem like monotonous passages but stick with it. They have been waiting over 40 years for this. These are passages that highlight God’s FAITHFULNESS. Have you ever been in a place where you wondered if God was going to come through? No doubt they were there. These passages prove He always does.

We get to read about a special inheritance today. Back in the book of Numbers Moses sent a group of spies to spy out the promised land. They came back and only Joshua & Caleb exhibited trust in God and His promise. Because of that God, through Moses made promises... that included land to Caleb.

Well the time has come. Caleb comes before Josha and reminds him of this promise. Joshua gives it to him. And he sets out on a conquest to drive the inhabitants out of the land with the Lord.

A few things to take away today:

1) GOD FOLLOWS THROUGH ON HIS PROMISES.
2) GOD BLESSES OBEDIENCE.

This is over 45 years since this promise was made (v10). There may have been times that he wondered when God was going to follow through. But we know God follows through on His promises. But also God blesses obedience. This phrase is repeated THREE TIMES in this passage...

“He wholly followed the Lord, the God of Israel...” (v.8, 9, 14)

Never underestimate obedience. God blesses obedience. We don’t obey to be blessed by God. We obey because we have been blessed by God. But we need to ask... does this statement define our life, “wholly followed the Lord, the God of Israel...

WHOLLY - to the full or entire extent...

May this mark our life. May this be who we are.

37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. // Matthew 22:37
